Holiday photographs – what to do with them? "Why did I take so many photos on holiday?" is a cry often heard resounding throughout the land.
Holiday photos – photographic souvenirs of great moments on holiday, either foreign holidays or ones closer to home on the beach, from holiday cruises to holiday skiing, we accumalate a fair number of holiday 'snaps' in a lifetime.
The other day, I decided to go on a bit of a late spring clean and discovered some old holiday photographs in a dust covered tin.
Looking back through them bought back some great holiday memories and I picked out one of the kids and put it to one side.
You see, you can now turn those lovely holiday photos into fabulous personalised photo gifts.
Holiday photos make a great photo gift. There's usually lots of colour and action in them for a start, as well as the sunny daylight making photos seem really alive and full of detail.
The people in them are usually smiling – practically beaming from ear to ear. They are on holiday after all.
Anyway, back to that particular picture I pulled out of the packet. I thought it would make a great birthday present for my Dad next month. He's always joked about having a mug with our mugs on.
At Fabulous Photo Gifts, they don't just do personalised photo mugs. They do all kinds of gift ideas including probably one of the largest selections of jigsaw puzzles you can personalise with your own photos online.
Mousemats, chopping boards, t-shirts (in more sizes than you can shake a stick at) etc, all lovingly prepared and printed by hand.
Back to that mug for my Dad – it doesn't matter that I haven't got a digital camera and file of the picture I've chosen. Fabulous Photo Gifts also offer a postal service which includes FREE scanning.
So you don't have to wait for the summer holidays to be over before you can order a photo gift, however, I hope I've inspired you for when you get back home from this years travels and start to wonder “just what am I going to do with all these photographs?”.

Birthday Gifts for Difficult People
Unique Birthday Gift ideas for difficult people
We all know someone for whom buying a birthday present can be a real nightmare.
Trying to find a gift that's unique, that they will actually use and, particularly if you've got to post the birthday present to them, something that's not too expensive usually results in a record token!
Now Fabulous Photo Gifts can help you out of your birthday gift nightmare. We have a range of great birthday gift ideas that you can personalise with your own photographs – perhaps one of you or one of the birthday person themselves.
We have everything from photo jigsaw puzzles – all shapes and sizes, most come in a two part box with the picture on the lid (just like the jigsaw puzzles in the shops) or how about a personalised photo mug – our photo mugs feature your chosen picture printed on both sides at no extra cost, or a photo mousemat or for the homeowners, our glass chopping boards and placemats and coasters make a great photo birthday gift idea that will be treasured for years.
None of us are getting any younger I'm afraid, which means it's only going to get harder and harder to come up with a really original birthday present gift idea.
Luckily, just as time doesn't stand still – neither does Fabulous Photo Gifts. We're always introducing new personalised photo gift ideas to our website. We won't make any of our new ideas available until we're completely happy with the quality of the gift and the suppliers, and only after extensive test printing do we finally 'launch' a new product.
Some ideas we're currently working on at the moment include car sunscreens that you can personalise with your own photos (you know – the side or back window ones that fix in with a little suction cup to keep the sun off babies and children), wallets with a front cover you can personalise, a gym bag and a larger glass clock.
So the next time you're stuck for a gift idea, grab your photo and head over to Fabulous Photo Gifts and get personal. In fact, why not visit now? Take a look at the present range of photo gift ideas and bookmark the website so you can find it easily when you need it next.

Upload your photos and create a personalised photo jigsaw puzzle
Personalised photo jigsaw puzzles make a great photo gift.
And at Fabulous Photo Gifts, we've made it really easy to personalise the photo jigsaw puzzle of your choice and order online.
We have probably the largest range of Photo Jigsaw Puzzles available online – from 24 piece, magnetic backed jigsaw puzzles to large 2000 piece jigsaw puzzles as well as special panoramic style (letterbox shaped) jigsaw puzzles in both 560 piece and 1300 piece options.
We even stock a 'square shaped' jigsaw puzzle that you can add your own photograph to.
All our boxed jigsaw puzzles feature a two part box with the completed puzzle picture printed on the lid at no extra charge!
More recently, we added an express range of wooden jigsaw puzzles including 2 novelty jigsaw puzzles featuring cut out letter pieces that spell Happy Birthday or I Love You.
Our standard boxed photo jigsaw puzzles are normally delivered in 10 to 14 days from order. This is due to the production process of printing, adhering to card backing, and pressing out. Each stage has to be allowed to dry completely before moving onto the next stage.
So we introduced our Express Range of jigsaw puzzles. A choice of 15 piece A5 size jigsaw puzzle, 30 piece A4 size jigsaw puzzle which comes in a special presentation wallet and two A4 size novelty jigsaw puzzles that also come in a clear presentation wallet.
These Express jigsaw puzzles are normally delivered between 5 and 7 days from point of order, and make a great photo gift idea when you need a photo gift in a hurry.
We've worked very hard to make your online photo gift shopping experience as simple as possible, however if you are unsure about anything, then don't hesitate to contact us first.
You don't need a digital photo file to order a photo gift from Fabulous Photo Gifts either. We have a postal order form you can download and print off to accompany your photo prints or slides.
Our premium scanning service is completely free and we keep digital copies for approximately 3 months so if you want to order more gifts, then just drop us an email. We recommend you send your postal orders by recorded delivery as we cannot accept responsibility for any damaged or lost pictures until they are in our signed for possession. We always return your postal photos by recorded delivery. An additional charge of £1.00 applies to those postal orders where you require your photograph, slide or CD returning and this is purely to help cover return postage costs.

Harry Potter and the Triangle of Relevancy?
“The "Triangle of Relevancy" is used to describe the relationship between the text in a landing page, a sponsored advertisement and the keyword or phrase that's entered into a search engine. Google places a premium on relevancy as it endeavors to ensure visitors have a positive experience by getting search results relevant to their search terms. I will outline specific steps an advertiser can take to maximize their landing pages and sponsored advertisement's effectiveness in their search engine marketing endeavors. “
The above just popped into my mailbox – the subject title: triangle of relevancy
Not having heard of this phrase before, i thought it was a harry potter spoof – you know, harry potter and the triangle of relevancy kind of idea.
It started a small guffaw in the office as we discussed other possible film tie-in's. Here's what we've come up with so far (we're not a very imaginative lot):
Harry Potter and the Triangle of Relevancy
Indiana Jones 4 – The Triangle of Relevancy
Nancy Drew Mystery - The Triangle of Relevancy
Secret Seven - The Triangle of Relevancy
Tarzan and The Triangle of Relevancy
Tomb Raider 3 – The Triangle of Relevancy
An aid to kitchen designers (not a film tie-in I know)
We're sure there our loads more examples out there (we've been told to get on with our work) so over to you.
Our regular SEO wizard will try to bring you a muggles guide to the triangle of relevancy once he's read up all about it (and finished his lunch).

Fund Raising - money for your local RSPCA or animal shelter
Sometimes the Fabulous Photo Gifts family home seems more like an animal ark or RSPCA pet rescue centre. We could do with some fund raising of our own just to keep them all fed and watered.
There's the family dog – a lurcher called Wanda (as in fish called), 2 rats, 5 mice and 5 cats (1 each – yummy!) – Amy, Storm, Molly Mackerel, Doodle and Bunny-Boo (don't ask – that's what you get when you leave name decisions to a 8 year old!)
If you think we're barking – we're not (it's not the cats either!), but when we announced our fund raising 'Funds for Life' scheme – Open to any school, group, team or charity etc just a one off bulk photo jigsaw purchase which you can use to sell and raise funds from and then any personal orders made using your unique code afterwards, Fabulous Photo Gifts donates 5% of the basket total to your nominated good cause, every order, every time, for Life! - people thought we were, well, one jigsaw piece short of the full picture.
However, we ploughed bravely on and now have 3 scheme members set up and hopefully, they'll raise lots of money for their good causes.
If you'd like to see an example of how one of our scheme members has used our fund raising scheme in their website – visit www.twinswithsma.co.uk – 2 local boys suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. They're raising funds for specialist equipment.
So you could also be using our innovative fund raising scheme to raise funds for your own animal shelter etc. With the minimum qualifying order at just 50 jigsaws, we really want to include as many of you as we can.
We're both parents ourselves and we've done our own fair share of fund raising committees etc at local school PFA's, Scout Groups, Toddler groups, Playgroups and Nurseries etc so we know how difficult it can be to come up with original fund raising ideas that really work.
We think our Funds for Life scheme is attractive and a sure fire winner. And we do all the work too. We total up your commissions and send a cheque every quarter. When we despatch an order, we'll remind the customer of your unique scheme number for next time they need a personalised photo gift present idea – indeed, they can share the code with other family members, friends, work colleagues, neighbours etc.
We do suggest you promote the code yourself – your regular member mailouts, your websites, meetings and open days etc.
Fabulous Photo Gifts is always adding new personalised gift ideas to it's website so there will always be new and exciting gift ideas to choose from.
Click here to download your own Fabulous Photo Gifts 'Funds for Life' information pack or call us on 0845 003 4118 to discuss getting your good cause added into our fund raising scheme.
We also offer a full postal order service which includes FREE scanning of photographs or slides so your members or supporters don't have to be on the Internet to be able to take part. Gifts for them, funds for you!

Harry Potter casts his spell on Fabulous Photo Gifts office
Its been Harry Potter this and Harry Potter that amongst the younger members of the family since the release of the newest instalment - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
So to keep the youngsters happy (and us of course) we paid homage and visited our local Odeon cinema at the weekend.
Amidst the popcorn and sweets, we all sat glued to the screen for the 2 and a half hours. We weren't disapointed.
And according to some recent research by Nielson (click here) we weren't alone.
So before you queue for the latests and last book instalment, here's a few figures to keep you going as conjured up by Neilson...
Book sales (Nielsen BookScan): Since 1998, when Nielsen began measuring book sales in the United Kingdom, the six Harry Potter books have sold more than 22.5 million copies in the UK alone. In the United States, the Harry Potter titles published after 2001 have sold more than 27.7 million copies.
Box office sales (Nielsen EDI): Combined, the first four Harry Potter films have grossed more than $3.5 billion worldwide. The first film, "Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone," is the fourth highest-grossing film worldwide.
Advertising (Nielsen Monitor-Plus): In the US, ad spend for all Harry Potter branded merchandise (including books, movies, DVDs and other promotional products) totals $269.1 million from 1998 to date. Outside of the US from 2000 to date, $119.3 million was spent on total advertising for all Harry Potter branded merchandise in Canada, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, Switzerland, and the UK.
DVD/video sales (Nielsen VideoScan): All three Harry Potter DVDs/videos - Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets, and Prisoner of Azkaban - debuted at No. 1 and remained the No. 1 family film for the first 3 weeks of each release.
Internet traffic (Nielsen/NetRatings): The Warner Bros. "Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix" website drew 446,762 unique visitors in May 2007.
So fear not... you're not alone.

If only visitors could find articles quickly - SEO tip
How often have you visited a Blog and left because there were so many articles, you couldn't find the one you had intended to read?
This can be especially frustrating if you click a link from a search engine that just takes you to the blog (in general) rather than to a specific story.
There are several reasons for this. Either the Search Engine has just returned the result because it thought it matched, but its only matched to the blog url and not the specific story url or its picked up from a technorati thread etc, but again the link wasn't to a specific story.
When digging or delicious adding, its important to be specific - the same when linking back to past articles - be specific.
Not sure what URL to limk to? Easy - just click on the story you want to link to and copy and paste the URL from the address bar.
However, you haven't previously made specific links so all is lost right? Wrong! There's still much you can do. Have you used tags on your posts? If you have then you can add a really neat widget called a Tag Cloud.
Tag Clouds display your post tags with the more popular a tag, the bigger it appears. So not only is it an instant identifier of your most popular tags (articles), it can also be used to quickly identify a topic and go straight to all the articles that include that topic (or tag).
At Fabulous Photo Gifts, we've been working on a way to add a Tag Cloud of our own but ended up using the excellent bit of code for adding a Tag Cloud to Blogger here:
http://phydeaux3.blogspot.com/2006/09/code-for-beta-blogger-label-cloud.html
Many thanks to Phydeaux3 for sharing that with the rest of us.

FAQ's - Why the two delivery times?
FAQ's – Why the two delivery times?
With the addition of the new range of photo gifts – photo mugs, photo mousemats, photo t-shirts etc, because these gift ideas and our new range of novelty jigsaws undergo a different production process to that of our traditional photo jigsaw puzzles, we were able to greatly reduce the delivery times on these photo gift ideas.
When you place an online photo gift order with Fabulous Photo Gifts, you'll receive a courtesy email giving you confirmation of the delivery time of your order.
It looks like this:
Many thanks for your order. Please accept this confirmation that your order has been received successfully.
If there are any problems with your order we will be in touch.
Your delivery is scheduled for approximately 27/07/2007 - If you have posted images or CD's, these may arrive back seperately to your order.
The above delivery date is for our boxed and standard jigsaw range only. Express jigsaws and all other photo gifts will be delivered in 5 to 7 days time
Thank you for using Fabulous Photo Gifts, a sister company of Purple 13
mandy@fabulousphotogifts.co.uk
www.fabulousphotogifts.co.uk
www.purple13.co.uk contemporary photo art by Mandy Collins
You'll notice the date (in this example 27/07/2007) is 14 days on from placing your order. This date refers to the delivery of our range of standard and boxed photo jigsaw puzzles only.
The line underneath re-iterates that all other photo gifts including our novelty and express range of photo jigsaws will be delivered in the stated 5 to 7 days from placing of your order.
If your order is going to be delayed further, we will endeavour to contact you.
Our apologies for any confusion caused, however, as most of our orders include both boxed jigsaws and other photo gifts, we agreed that it was better to leave both sets of dates in the email you receive.

Have you neglected your internal links? an SEO guide for small businesses
Have you neglected the internal page links of your website?
Whilst the buzz is incoming links from other websites and blogs that share a common theme with your topic, did you know that how your website internally links also plays a part?
Site maps - click here to see site map example - (no not the Google Site Maps – I'll get to those another day) – no website should be without one.
Many sites use flash banners and buttons as a means for visitors to navigate around the website. All well and good if you're a human but not so good if your a search engine spider.
Of course, you can remedy this oversight easily and if you haven't, then start straight away, simply by adding html text links as a back up to your pretty buttons. Have you noticed that many sites have both image and text links to a page? That's the reason. That way, both sorts of visitors – the human and non-human will be able to navigate with equal ease.
Next, you want to get yourself a site map.
Again, you'll be appealing to both human and machine so its important to spend a little bit of time on this. Firstly, it wants to be a plain html page – no fancy inclusive files here. In fact any file name that has a ? in the url should be avoided for this page. Why? Well we know that some search engines struggle to get past a ? in a url, and for this reason many database websites will suffer or find it harder to get crawled.
Plain text links within a html environment will help overcome this.
Another important aspect of using a site map is that you can use specific key-worded text as the anchor text for the link to a particular page. Let me give you an example:
Instead of “jigsaw puzzles” (linking to the jigsaw puzzle page), why not consider ““Personalised photo jigsaw puzzles”? You see, just by adding those few extra keywords in there, your already creating a much more desirable link for both spiders and people alike.
Even better if you can copy the title or description tag of the particular page your linking to, which should already be heavily optimised as this re-enforces things from a spiders point of view.
This is where you'll have to be careful though that you don't create a site map that looks a bit gibberish.
You'll need to strike a balance between over keyword stuffing (never advisable) and not being specific enough.
So how should you structure your site map? Logically and thoroughly.
First list all your pages including the really deep seated ones e.g a fuller description of a product or point on its own pop up window etc.
Then put them into a logical order. Start with your main pages and then filter outwards. If you have 7 products leading from the product page, then try to give this layout a bit of form – remember you're trying to appeal to human visitors and this is your chance.
At the beginning, I said it was about how your own site pages interlink with each other. If you have the opportunity, then link back to other pages but try to be specific. Use anchor points to go back to a particular point on a particular page and this will help the spiders crawl your site more deeply.
Of course, these links shouldn't be hidden so no css style sheets making links appear as undecorated text. This is not a good idea! Seach Engines will penalise if they think you're using underhand tactics to disguise links etc. Try an underline when mouseover or a different colour text. It doesn't have to be underlined all the time.
So your SEO checklist should now read:
Create Site Map html document
Create interlinks between internal pages
Once those two tasks are complete, if you haven't already, then now is the perfect time to create a Google Site Map and submit it to their site map program, based on your own internal site map, you've just created or ammended.
Finally – it's important to keep up to date with Site Maps. Neglect them – fail to update new pages or remove old ones no longer live and you'll do your site and your visitors a disservice.

Why Blog? A guide for businesses
If you're a business that has an online presence, then sooner or later you're going to want to Blog. It may be that you're forced to Blog rather than want to but why put off the inevitable?
If you feel your business is being forced into blogging, then don't approach it with a heavy heart – this will come across in your writing and topics and your business will gain little from any exposure, which will be difficult enough to attract if you neglect your Blog.
Why Blog? Well there are several, already well written about reasons and i'm not going to go into details here at the risk of making this entry to big and unreadable. Basically, you'll Blog to inform of your new products, new services even new staff. You'll remind people of where you are, what you do and how that can benefit them. You'll entertain and enlighten through topic and non-topic articles, testimonials and contributions from other staff members.
And the result of all this blogging is a hoped for audience that will spread your word still further attracting new readers and hopefully a few new customers along the way also. You'll also benefit from the increased exposure giving your website better ranking and so moving it up the organic search results (which means hopefully, more people will find you) and you'll be able to spread word of new products, developments or news that much quicker to your audience through the use of an RSS Feed that directs people back to your Blog.
Because its so much easier to update a Blog, than pay a web designer every time you want to update your 'news page' on your website, you'll make your company appear more up to date and commercially aware. How good is that?
If you are already converted to the idea of blogging then now is the perfect time to start. Create an account on Google and use their ready to go Blog publishing program or explore others available – weigh up what each has to offer and decide yourself what features fit your specific needs the most.
Then you can start posting.
But don't forget that posting is only the start. You'll need to get your Blog out there in the 'blog-o-sphere” to get really noticed.
How? I hear you ask? - there are a number of Blog directories you can submit your blog to.
Remember to check out each one and decide which best suit your purposes. Some have their own communities and 'neighbours' facilities so providing a ready made blog community.
Use sites like Technorati and DIGG to get your articles noticed and add social bookmarking elements to both your Blog and individual posts to help get them noticed.
Don't expect instant results and don't be put off by some saying “you must post at least twice a day” - the thing is there is no real time frame (although the more frequently you post, the more your Blog will appear fresh and inviting). Post when you've got something to say – think carefully about each and every post – what are you trying to say, what are you hoping to achieve etc and if you're really struggling for ideas, then if you come across another article you find helpful, write a brief intro and link to that. You'll be amazed at just how quickly you'll get links back to your articles.

Rest of the best - website updates complete
Just when the weather decides to behave and (for those with tickets) it looks like you may actually see some tennis played at Wimbledon (you'd think they'd be used to the english weather by now), guess who has been indoors, completing website amendments?
That's right - the Fabulous Photo Gifts web designer!
A little after a week of intensive web design and the addition of a whole new range of photo gift ideas - mugs, mousemats, tea-trays, coasters, placemats, t-shirts, chopping boards and a new range of novelty photo jigsaws going live, the final pieces of the puzzle (pun intended) have finally gone live as other pages finally received their makeover.
In particular, the new graphics on the newly designed 'home page' have been themed around other information pages including - the fund-raising page which carries details of our innovative new fund raising scheme for schools, clubs, teams, charrities etc using photo gifts.
Also amended were: Our ever popular FAQ's page, the About Us page and our How To Order page.
Of course the web updates won't be stopping there (for long anyway). Mandy already has more photo gift ideas currently undergoing scrutiny, before deciding whether to offer them or not, so watch this space - actually watch Fabulous Photo Gifts.

New home page design shows diversity of photo gifts available
Our new home page went live last night as part of the summer re-vamp of Fabulous Photo Gifts .co.uk to include the exciting new line up of photo gifts now available. The new graphics depict the diversity of the range and scope of different personalised photo gifts as well as showing our existing photo jigsaw puzzle range. There are also individual product links and a dedicated button for our ground-breaking 'Funds for Life' fund raising scheme.
Our new shop page with buttons to all the new products available was completed ahead of schedule and able to go live last weekend.
We hope you like the new pages and welcome any customer feedback on your online experiences whilst shopping at fabulousphotogifts.co.uk. Please feel free to leave your comments at the bottom of this post.
Personalised photo Glass Chopping Boards and our new range of express / novelty wooden jigsaws are the current favourites with our personalised tea-trays coming a close second.
And it doesn't stop there. We're already testing out new photo gift ideas including wallets, small stretched canvasses and car window sunscreens – you know, the child protecting side window ones.
All our new photo gifts are printed in our own workshop to ensure quality and faithful reproduction of your photograph and all include FREE delivery within the UK.
And of course, if your school, team, club, group or charity participate in our 'Funds for Life' fund raising program (click here for details on how to join), then any order you place for any of the currently available photo gift ideas, will qualify (when used in conjunction with their scheme code).
We'll be bringing you more news soon of further amendments including an updated FAQ's page and specifications page – catch a glimpse here - (for the technically minded amongst you).

Were you at the Diana Concert last night?
Were you at the Diana concert last night?
Were you lucky enough to be at the Diana concert last night? What a night! The new Wembley glittered in the evening sun as millions watched, and even the rain stayed away.
Even (if like me) you were watching at home, the whole concert was pretty awesome, although I still can't quite work out what Ricky Gervais was doing there??, I suppose you're either a fan or your not.
Me personally – it was the Swan Lake finale performance and I thought the aerial camera angle really showed the movement off at it's best. It was nice to see everyone really get into it amidst the cocktail of new and old groups and performers.
I think even the commentators were surprised at just how well the ballet was received.
When Rod Stewart came on, I thought he was going to strip off his top to reveal a Celtic top, but he seemed content to fire a volley of signed footballs into the appreciative crowd and made a quip about, and delighted in, getting to kick a ball at Wembley.
So now the party's over. However, very soon a lot of you will be processing your photographs taken on the day either digitally or on film. We'd like to suggest a couple of ways to enjoy those photographic memories.
Our range of photo jigsaws come in 13 different sizes, many of the boxed and featuring the completed picture on the lid. In addition, we've now launched a range of quick delivery wooden and novelty jigsaws. A great idea for family and friends that missed the show.
Alternatively, you can show off your participation of the evening on a hand printed ceramic mug or photo personalised mousemat.
You can order our full range of gifts online with your digital file or if you prefer, print off our postal order form and send with your photograph and payment, direct to our workshop.
